Darien football coach Rob Trifone has been selected for induction into the CHSCA Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place in November. Trifone will be introduced and honored at Saturday’s UConn game against Illinois.
Trifone has a 241-82-1 record in 29 seasons, the last 11 at Darien. Trifone started his career at Brien McMahon, where he won 123 games.
Trifone has won six FCIAC and four state titles — including three in succession from 2015-17, when the Blue Wave ended No. 1 in the state.
Trifone’s teams have finished as state runners-up three times. Trifone was inducted into the FCIAC Hall of Fame in 2014. Trifone has been named Coach of the Year twice by the National Football Foundation and once by the CHSCA.
In a release sent out by the program, Trifone said, “I am very humbled to be mentioned in the same category with the greatest football coaches in Connecticut history. I have been fortunate to have worked alongside incredibly loyal staff members as well as some of the greatest young men a coach could ever ask for.”
