One reason for the Wilton boys basketball team’s high hopes coming into the season is the outside shooting of Andrew Smith.

Smith was a big reason for the Warriors advancing to the FCIAC semifinals and state quarterfinals a year ago.

Smith will play an even larger role this winter. On Tuesday night he scored 16 of the Warriors’ 18 first-quarter points in a win over Norwalk.

TRR: Who has the best nickname on the team?

AS: Ben Weiner: “Lowry”

TRR: What does the team need to do to take the next step and win the FCIAC title?

AS: As a team, we need to execute better on the defensive end of the floor and we need to play more physically. Holding our box outs, attacking the glass and setting better screens will be critical for our team’s success.

TRR: Describe the feeling when you are hot and feel like you can’t miss?

AS: It’s a great feeling, hearing the Tribe in the background and after that you just stop thinking and go with the flow of the game.

TRR: Do you have a pregame routine?

AS: I always eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich about two hours before the game.

TRR: Who do you want to win the college football national championship?

AS: Clemson.
