After getting a treat with last week’s great Darien-Greenwich game, we are back to waiting for the next one between state playoff contenders.

Game Of The Week

Staples (2-4) at Wilton (4-2), Friday, 7 p.m. Such is life in the FCIAC that again the biggest game in the seventh week of the season includes a team under .500.

The Wreckers showed life last week with Jake Thaw back at quarterback and led New Canaan late in the first half. Then the Rams adjusted and kept Thaw contained.

Wilton’s lone losses have been to St. Joseph and Ridgefield, which could both be playing December football, and the defense played well against the Tigers.

With a victory here the Warriors are going to win at least seven games. And suddenly their trip to New Canaan before Thanksgiving could be for, yes, a trip to the state playoffs. But first they have to get by Staples.

Friday

Trumbull (2-4) at Fairfield Ludlowe (4-2), 6 p.m. The Eagles look to end a slide against a Ludlowe team that has been much stronger than many expected.

Brien McMahon (2-4) at New Canaan (4-2)7 p.m. The Rams are coming off their best half of the year against Staples, while the Senators had their best game in a win over Stamford.

Stamford (3-3) at Ridgefield (5-1), 7 p.m. The Tigers have a decided edge in personnel as they look to rebound from their loss to St. Joseph and focus on a state playoff run.

Westhill (1-5) at Norwalk (3-3), 7 p.m. The Vikings got their first win last week. The Bears want to make a run at finishing on the right side of .500.

Saturday

Bassick (0-6) at Bridgeport Central (0-6),11 a.m. The Hilltoppers came close to their first win last week. Here is another good opportunity.

Fairfield Warde (2-4) at St. Joseph (6-0)1:30 p.m. The Cadets have just been steamrolling teams.

Greenwich (5-1) at Trinity/Wright Tech (0-6), 1:30 p.m. This was a tough enough spot for the Crusaders before Greenwich suffered its first loss.

Darien (6-0) at Danbury (4-2), 6 p.m. The Hatters have to go from Newtown to the Blue Wave. How will Darien look coming off a huge win?
