Announcing The FCIAC-Fairfield County Walk To End Alzheimer’s Challenge
Dave Ruden
08.08.2022
My mother passed away from Alzheimer’s Disease on Nov. 12, 2020, after a battle that lasted just over a decade. It is an illness most painful to the loved ones of the person afflicted.
I had participated in the Fairfield County Walk to End Alzheimer’s for a number of years and my brother was the walk chair in 2019. I decided I wanted to do play a bigger role in the fight against Alzheimer’s so that one day we find a cure and no more families will endure what mine did.
I agreed to replace my brother as chair in 2020 with the idea I could use my close relationship with the FCIAC to get as many teams from the league to work together. Sixty-five teams participated and raised just over $70,000. I returned last year and 42 teams raised nearly $50,000.
Two weeks ago I decided to take part for a third year as chair emeritus. This year’s walk is on Oct. 9 at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk at 10:30. Teams can also choose their own walk routes in their communities.
With a grass root campaign on The Ruden Report Instagram account we already have 25 teams registered in 10 days. I want to shoot high. Very high!
So today I am announcing the FCIAC-Fairfield County Walk To End Alzheimer’s Challenge. In 2020 the Staples boys soccer team raised $5,765. The Ridgefield boys and girls basketball programs raised $6,020. Last year the Greenwich girls tennis team topped the list, with $5,813.
We have an FCIAC Team of the Week and Players of the Week. Now we will have an FCIAC Alzheimer’s Team of the Year. The team that has raised the most money at 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 9 will get Ruden Report T shirts in whatever colors they choose. I will also make a $250 donation to the walk in the name of the team.
There will be a Ruden Report tent at the walk and I hope to plan some fun things. I’ll be limited in what we do because I want as much money going to the walk, but we will make it a fun day.
The FCIAC is a league comprised of great people that have always been involved in charitable endeavors. Here is a way for us to all work together at an event where everything has been arranged: you just need to register your team and raise funds.
To sign up, you can use the bar code on the photo at the top of this post or with this link: https://act.alz.org/site/TR/Walk2022/CT-Connecticut?pg=entry&fr_id=15454
After you sign up send me a team photo on Instagram: we are doing a shoutout for every team that registers.
If you have any questions you can email me at rudend@therudenreport.com.
Usually I set goals because I am a competitive person. But the FCIAC has always demonstrated that the sky is the limit. Hopefully we can all work together for an important cause and help make a difference.
