Ruden Report Hosting Hope Blooms Alzheimer’s Walk May 3 At Trumbull

The picture below ranks with my favorites since starting The Ruden Report 12 1/2 years ago. It is from the 2023 Fairfield County Walk to End Alzheimer’s. From 2020-23 I was the chair of the event, and together with around 500 athletes each year from a variety of FCIAC schools and teams, we raised $180,000.

My mother passed away from Alzheimer’s on Nov. 12, 2020, after a battle that lasted just over a decade. It is an illness most painful to the loved ones of the person afflicted.

I have wanted to get back involved, and in conjunction with another fundraiser in Westport this spring where I am on the board, this year I have decided to host my own event. On Sunday, May 3, from 11 am until 1 pm, I will host The Ruden Report Hope Blooms Walk on the Trumbull High School football field.

I hope the walk will bring together high school teams and athletes, families and supporters in a spirited competition to raise funds for CaringKind’s mission to provide compassionate support for individuals and families impacted by Alzheimer’s and dementia. Together, we are launching a new community tradition that drives awareness, partnership and momentum toward our $30,000 (for now!) walk goal.

(Here is the link to register for the walk.)

The FCIAC is a league comprised of great people who have always been involved in charitable endeavors. Here is a way for us to all work together at an event where everything has been arranged: you just need to register your team and raise funds.

And I have arranged great prizes for the three teams that raise the most money:

  • Grand Prize: Tickets for a team trip to a Mets game.
  • Runner-up: A $250 gift certificate for a team dinner at Riko’s Pizza.
  • 3rd Place: The Ruden Report T-shirts in school colors.

All of Trumbull’s spring sports teams have committed to walk, along with the Staples, Fairfield Warde and Brien McMahon baseball teams.

Special thanks to Trumbull athletic director Mike King for giving me use of his field and being so accommodating working with me to put on a special event.

Registering is easy: Use either the link or QR codes above. We will have a walk around the track and other fun events. Many teams hold fundraisers each season. This is a chance to participate without having to organize anything. Most importantly, it is a chance to bring the entire FCIAC community together for a great cause. I invite you all to attend.
