The CIAC announced today plans for a traditional spring sports schedule and set a March 1 date for indoor track to begin holding dual meets.
Competitive cheerleading and dance will also be permitted to hold virtual competitions on that date, but wrestling will continue to be unable to hold meets.
The decisions stem from revised guidance by the National Federation of State High School Associations and meetings the CIAC held with the Connecticut Department of Public Health and Gov. Lamont’s office.
Regarding safety measures for the winter sports, the CIAC’s release stated, “Mask wearing will be required with the exception of brief removal of the masks by individuals engaged in stunts, lifts, tumbling and other acrobatics. Masks must immediately be put back on after those specific activities are completed. Complete COVID protocols and mitigating strategies for cheer and dance must be followed and will be redistributed to member schools next week.”
The first date of spring sports competition will be April 10, with state tournaments in all sports planned for June 1-13. Practices will begin on March 27.
The status of boys lacrosse, which the DPH had deemed a high-risk sport, remains undecided. The CIAC asked the DPH to revisit its classification, but no decision has yet been made.
