Danbury’s Elijah Duffy Up for USA Today’s Play Of The Week

This has been a good fall for FCIAC football players getting national attention. First there was the amazing game-winning touchdown pass by Fairfield Ludlowe’s Mikey Arman. Two weeks ago a video of a trick field goal by New Canaan’s Peter Swindell, posted off the team’s Twitter account, went viral and now has over 600,000 views.

And currently an amazing 86-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Danbury’s Elijah Duffy last Friday against Greenwich has caught the attention of USA Today, which has it as one of five finalists for Play of the Week on its High School Sports social hub.

Duffy is currently in second place. The problem is his 18 percent of the vote trails a touchdown catch on the final play of regulation and two-point conversion by Pine View in Utah that tied the game. That has 76 percent of the votes.

The Ruden Report was one of the sites Duffy sent his play, in which he avoids nearly all 11 Greenwich defenders.
