Fairfield County Walk To End Alzheimer’s This Sunday; FCIAC Has Raised Over $25k

The Fairfield County Walk to End Alzheimer’s is this Sunday. The event will be held at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk at 10 on Sunday morning, with teams having the option of walking locally in their communities.

So why is news of a fundraiser appearing on The Ruden Report? Two reasons: for the second straight year I am the chairperson of the event and I am working, with the support of the FCIAC, with all schools and teams from the conference to fundraise.

My mother suffered with Alzheimer’s for over 10 years. On Sunday it will be two days shy of 11 months since the disease took her life. I agreed to chair the walk again both to honor her memory and because the FCIAC last year did such an outstanding job — and the chance to work in conjunction with the coaches and athletes I cover was so rewarding.

Below is a photo of my brother and I last year as well as some of the FCIAC teams that participated.

Last year the 65 FCIAC teams that actively participated raised $70,608. So far we have 73 teams registered for Sunday. Thirty one teams, including Team Ruden Report, have started fundraising and so far we are at $25,226.

I’m hoping for a big push the next six days. My initial goal is to get to $30,000, which would bring us to $100,000 in two years. With most fundraising taking part in the final week, my hope is we go even higher.

I am asking everyone in the FCIAC community and beyond for your support and to join us.

Here are all the details on the walk.

Here is the link if you would like to register to walk.

If you can’t participate please consider supporting a team that is. The money raised by Team Ruden Report counts toward the FCIAC total. Here is the link if you would like to make a contribution. EVERY dollar matters.

Almost all of my efforts to promote the walk have taken place on The Ruden Report Instagram account. I have posted photos of every team that has signed up.

For whatever skills I have as a writer, I am at a loss for words that properly convey my appreciation to everyone in the FCIAC that has participated the past two years, and more so to the entire Fairfield County community. So far we have 267 teams registered and $262,778 has been raised.

Also, I hope all teams that do take place will again send in photos and videos of them walking for me to share.

I lost my mother — twice — due to Alzheimer’s. Like everyone else involved, I want to do my part so sometime soon no one else loses a mother or a loved one.

I hope everyone will consider joining us on Sunday.
