Game Day: Breaking Down Today’s Boys & Girls Basketball Schedule

Here is a breakdown of today’s FCIAC boys and girls basketball games.

Boys Basketball

  • Fairfield Ludlowe @ Staples, 4
  • Stamford @ Norwalk, 5
  • Danbury @ Ridgefield, 5
  • Darien @ St. Joseph, 5:15
  • Wilton @ Fairfield Warde, 6:30

Game of the Day: Fairfield Ludlowe at Staples. The Wreckers are 4-0 and one of the top teams in the league. The question is whether they are going to be a high seed or go one step farther and compete for the title. They ride the 1-2 scoring punch of Lucas Basich and Derek Sale. The Falcons (2-2) are not the most talented team, but they work hard, are fundamentally sound and will give many of the top teams a hard time. This is the kind of game where their work ethic can earn them a quality victory.

Curious about: Darien at St. Joseph. Not a lot is known about the Blue Wave, other than everyone is expecting it to be more formidable due to the return of coach Charoy Bentley. The Cadets are 4-0 and opinions vary abut their ceiling.

Girls Basketball

  • St. Joseph @ Darien, 4:30
  • Ridgefield @ Danbury, 4:30
  • Fairfield Warde @ Wilton, 5
  • Norwalk @ Stamford, 5
  • Staples @ Fairfield Ludlowe, 5

Game of the Day: Staples at Fairfield Ludlowe. The Wreckers were supposed to take a step back but are off to a 4-0 start. Today they take a step up in class, against the 3-1 Falcons, whose lone loss was to Trumbull after a game-tying shot at the buzzer was blocked. This is an important measuring stick game for both, not to mention big for playoff seeding.

Curious about: Ridgefield at Danbury. The Tigers are 3-0 and thus far look even better than the team that won the FCIAC title last year as a seventh seed. They have not demonstrated any weaknesses. The Hatters are supposed to be a contender but, after losses to Staples (on the final possession) and Ludlowe they are 1-2. Neither loss is a bad one, but here’s another chance to take down an elite opponent.
