Here is a breakdown of today’s FCIAC boys and girls basketball games.
- Westhill @ Staples, 2:30
- St. Joseph @ Brien McMahon, 5
- Danbury @ Fairfield Ludlowe, 5
- New Canaan @ Trumbull, 5
- Fairfield Warde @ Norwalk, 5
- Ridgefield @ Stamford, 5
Game of the Day: New Canaan and Trumbull. A week ago this looked like a pairing of top four teams. Maybe it will have proved to be in a few weeks. The Eagles have struggled in two losses and may not have the predicted offensive firepower. In a normal season this game would have greater urgency for the FCIAC playoffs. The Rams were on the verge of being upset against Greenwich before a big run at the end.
Curious about: Westhill at Staples. These two teams were viewed as a step below the top contenders at the start of the season and that has not changed. The Wreckers may be better than we thought. A win here would bolster their credentials. The Vikings impressed in the second half of last week’s loss to Ridgefield.
- Staples @ Westhill, 3
- Fairfield Ludlowe @ Danbury, 4:30
- Stamford @ Ridgefield, 5
- Norwalk @ Fairfield Warde, 5
- Trumbull @ New Canaan, 5
- Brien McMahon @ St. Joseph, 5:15
Game of the Day: Fairfield Ludlowe at Danbury. Both teams are coming off of close losses, the Falcons to Trumbull and the Hatters to Staples, that were decided on the final possession. A potential league champion is going to have two early defeats in the battle for playoff seeding.
Curious about: Stamford at Ridgefield. How good are the Black Knights? Making the difficult trip to Ridgefield is a good measuring stick game. The Tigers start a tough three-game stretch. They have a good chance of running the table after in their final seven contests.
