Grip It & Rip It To Feature 32 Teams — 12 From FCIAC

The 13th edition of the Grip It & Rip It 7 on 7 tournament returns to New Canaan High School with pool play on Friday, followed by the playoffs on Saturday.

Barring any last-minute changes — Wilton had to drop out yesterday and was replaced by Trinity Catholic — there will be 32 teams participating, including 12 from the FCIAC. That includes Class LL champion Greenwich and runner-up New Canaan, which won the event last year. Darien is another of last year’s state playoff teams returning.

The tournament — there are no linemen on either side of the ball — gives an early glimpse at some of the FCIAC’s expected top players at other positions.

Here is Friday’s pool-play schedule, with four games running simultaneously from 1:30 until 7 on two different fields.
