With senior athletes seeing the final months of their high school careers affected both on and off the fields and away from the gyms, The Ruden Report is running a series, Senior Moments, to put the spotlight on some of the best of the Class of 2020.
Next up is Brett Lauterbach of the Fairfield Warde baseball team.
TRR: Now that the quarantine has lasted for about six weeks have you gotten into a new routine?
BL: There are parts that are difficult but I have gotten into a routine where I work out in the morning, do my homework then I kind of hang out the rest of the day. Go on a ride by myself.
TRR: Now that we are almost at May are you past the point of frustration?
BL: Yeah, I kind have gotten comfortable with it. I realize that it’s not going to be like the past three years of playing. It’s not going to be the same but hopefully we get something in.
TRR: Has the team been doing anything to try and stay together?
BL: We have a group chat but our team recently donated canned foods to a food bank. We’ve been in contact in that way.
TRR: What do you miss the most about baseball?
BL: I miss being out with the boys. Just going out to practice every day, taking the bus rides to the different schools. It kind of stinks.
TRR: Are you doing anything now with the extra free time that you haven’t before?
BL: I go on unusually long car rides. To different places in Fairfield that I have never been. Just trying to stay busy and passing the time.
TRR: What’s your go-to restaurant in Fairfield?
BL: If I had to pick a restaurant it would have to be Sakura in Westport. It’s the best place.
TRR: If you had your choice of a week of games, prom or graduation which would you pick?
BL: Probably a week of games honestly. That’s the most fun to me.
TRR: Have you discovered any good movies or TV shows?
BL: I recently started watching Breaking Bad, a bunch of movies I had never seen. Old ones with my dad. Just experiencing new things.
TRR: If you don’t get to go back to school how would you like to be remembered by your fellow seniors at Warde?
BL: Just as a nice kid, always caring for people and having a good time.
