After a long list of memorable accomplishments over the past two months, it is time for you to decide who was the very best of the best. We have selected six outstanding finalists for our BlueStreak-Ruden Report FCIAC Football Player of the Year award.
The winner will receive a trophy and other prizes from BlueStreak Sports Training and The Ruden Report.
Here are the finalists and their statistics (prior to Saturday’s state championship games), according to MaxPreps:
MUFASHA ABDUL-BASIR, ST. JOSEPH RUNNING BACK: Abdul-Basir rushed for 2,315 yards, averaging 9.3 a carry, and 28 touchdowns. He also had 233 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns.
WILL BONAPARTE, RIDGEFIELD RUNNING BACK: Bonaparte rushed for 1,938 yards, averaging 7 a carry, and 19 touchdowns. He also had 268 receiving yards and a touchdown.
COLE HARRIS, NEW CANAAN LINEBACKER: Harris finished with 159 tackles — 16.5 for losses — had 5 sacks, 3 fumble recoveries, 3 interceptions, a blocked punt, a safety and scored 2 touchdowns on defense and 3 on offense.
AUSTIN LONGI, GREENWICH RUNNING BACK: Longi rushed for 1,595 yards, averaging 11.4 a carry, and 25 touchdowns. He also had 342 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns, and 909 yards on kickoff and punt returns and 5 touchdowns.
NICK ROBERTS, TRUMBULL QUARTERBACK: Roberts completed 186 of 319 passes for 3,104 yards (16.7 a completion) and 32 touchdowns.
SILAS WYPER, DARIEN QUARTERBACK: Wyper completed 222 of 361 passes (62 percent), for 2,944 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also rushed for 406 yards and 4 touchdowns.
