The state playoff picture was clarified today on the final day of the regular season and it was a good one for the FCIAC. Wilton, with a win over Trinity/Wright Tech, joined Darien, Greenwich, Ridgefield, St. Joseph and New Canaan as the sixth team from the league to earn a postseason berth.
And after all the wins, losses and tiebreakers were computed, there will be two head to head quarterfinal meetings that are regular-season rematches in Tuesday’s quarterfinal round.
In Class LL, Darien (9-1) slipped to the third seed after its 20-0 loss to New Canaan. The Blue Wave will host Greenwich (9-1), which is the sixth seed after a 38-14 win over Staples.
Darien defeated Greenwich, 27-21, last month.
Ridgefield (8-2) is the No. 7 seed. It will travel to second-seeded Southington. If the Tigers are victorious they would face the Darien-Greenwich winner, which would also be a rematch.
St. Joseph (10-0) wrapped up the top seed in Class L with a 52-7 win over Trumbull. The Cadets will host No. 8 Wilton (7-3), which routed Trinity/Wright Tech, 63-20.
The teams met in week three, with the Cadets rolling to a 56-14 victory.
New Canaan (8-2) climbed to the fourth spot in Class L and will have a first-round home game against No. 5 Wethersfield. If the Rams win they will face either St. Joseph or Wilton. Either game would be a rematch.
The semifinals are Dec. 8 and the championship games on Dec. 14.
