One of the biggest stories if not the biggest of the high school sports season came on the final day, when the Ridgefield boys lacrosse team stunned Darien, 9-8, for the Class L title on Saturday.
The Tigers ended the Blue Wave’s 76-game winning streak, the third longest ever nationally in the sport, and denied Darien, which was ranked No. 2 in the country, of a fifth straight state title.
The Tigers had a 9-3 lead, but Darien came storming back with five goals in under two minutes to get within one score of tying.
This was Ridgefield’s first state title since 2011.
