For over a year I have had the idea of putting together an eclectic series for the site where high school athletes interview other high school athletes. One of my contributors, a player on the Ridgefield girls soccer team, told me about two extroverted teammates — Courtney Mitten and Lucie Picard — who would make perfect hosts.
We met one day in March, and out of that came Sports & Scoops, a talk show over ice cream, which is a collaborative effort by a number of my senior interns. I would take care of getting the guests, and they would take care of the rest.
And here is the first episode, with Darien boys lacrosse and football captain Finlay Collins as the guest. Sports & Scoops will run throughout the next month, and who knows after that.
A few thank yous. First, to Al DeGuido at Saugatuck Sweets in Fairfield, for sponsoring this series, providing us with a great spot to shoot and the best ice cream in the area.
And, of course, to all the interns involved, starting with Courtney and Lucie, who as you will see are perfectly suited for this project. Next to Cooper Boardman, a familiar name to followers of this site, who attends Staples and handled the filming, directing and editing. Next to Darien’s Cassidy Schiff, who worked one of the cameras, and New Canaan’s Molly Keshin, who served as a showrunner. Finally, to Ridgefield’s Natalie Brassinga, who has done a number of graphic projects over the last year and designed the logo.
We have shot the first four spots and look forward to more over the next few weeks.
So here is the debut of Sports & Scoops, with Finlay Collins.
