It was the third time they met during the season and the third one-goal game. But with the stakes at their highest, Fairfield Prep defeated Darien for the first time this year, defending its Division I state title in overtime, 2-1.
The Blue Wave took a quick 1-0 lead on a goal by Robert Juterbock and held it behind the spectacular goaltending of Michael Colon until the Jesuits’ Dean Lockery tied the game at 8:49 of the third period.
Vinny D’Amore provided the winning goal on a slap shot at 6:09 in overtime.
Fairfield Prep dominated the game after the first period but Darien held the lead until late because of the acrobatics by Colon, who stopped 34 shots.
Here is The Ruden Report’s game highlights, including all three goals, the Jesuits’ celebration, but mostly the best of Colon.
As you will see, there was a lot of best.
