The talk leading up to Saturday’s FCIAC Girls Basketball Tournament quarterfinals was about parity. Two-time defending champion Danbury entered as the top seed and favorite, but the third through seven seeds were separated by just two games in league play. And in the most revealing statistic, No. 8 Trumbull had a 3-4 record against the rest of the field.
Well, parity was not to be found on the first day of the playoffs. Greenwich defeated Westhill by 4 points, after a late rally by the Vikings. Wilton beat Fairfield Ludlowe by 19. Stamford toppled Fairfield Warde by 21. And Danbury routed Trumbull by 20.
The games may not have been close, but there were a number of great plays throughout the day. Westhill High School student and The Ruden Report videographer Mickey Sottile captured many of them.
So as we await Tuesday’s semifinals, sit back and relive the highlights from the opening day of play.
