Yesterday’s Best: McMahon Wins Behind Claps; Clark Sparks Staples; Pucci Dominant For Danbury

Baseball
- Matt Claps’ two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth lifted Brien McMahon to a 6-5 win over Greenwich. Phil Stalzer had two hits, including a three-run homer to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh, and four RBIs. Nathan Jones went the first 5 1/3 innings for the Cardinals, striking out 11 and allowing just one hit. Michael Bocchino homered for Greenwich.
- Jackson Ciccone went 3 for 3 and Thai-let Sestokis pitched a complete game for Danbury in a 6-3 win over New Canaan. Nick Smith added a home run.
- Kyle Kipp allowed just one hit with 13 strikeouts for Westhill in a 7-1 win over Trumbull. Connor Sullivan had three hits and two RBIs and Mike Petersen and Kieran Hackett had two hits for the Vikings.
- Phil Nora drove in five runs to lead Norwalk to a 7-1 win over Darien.
- Will Meyers pitched a perfect game over six innings with 12 strikeouts for Fairfield Ludlowe in a 10-0 win over Bridgeport Central.
Boys Lacrosse
- Tyler Clark finished with four goals and five assists and Charlie Howard added three goals and an assist for Staples in a 12-8 win over Greenwich. Bryce Metalios scored five goals for the Cardinals.
- Carter Connors, Ryan Connelly and Matt Salmini each scored two goals for New Canaan in a 9-8 win over Bronxville (NY).
Softball
- Haley Pucci threw a one-hit shutout with 18 strikeouts to lead Danbury to a 1-0 win over New Canaan. Ava Biasotti pitched well for the Rams, allowing just two hits and an unearned run. She struck out 11.
- Malin Medeiros pitched a three-hit shutout for her fourth win of the season, striking out nine, and added a triple for Darien in a 7-0 win over Norwalk. Ella Wadleigh added two hits.
- Ally Schwartz had two hits and drove in all three runs for Staples, which opened its season with a 3-1 win over Ridgefield.
Girls Lacrosse
- Lauryn Wright scored four goals and Lindsay Bull added three for Trumbull in a 14-13 win over Fairfield Warde.
- Sara DiGiovanni had 12 saves, 3 caused turnovers and 2 groundballs for Staples in a 10-6 win over Greenwich.
