Ryan Schriber and Zach Dedrick, two Wilton High School graduates now competing at the college level, are turning what has been a casual activity into a fundraiser. The two plan to run 20 miles on Saturday to raise money for the Open Door Shelter in Norwalk.

Dedrick, who played academy soccer while at Wilton and is now a member of the Notre Dame team, has been volunteering at Open Door, which provides short-term shelter, feeds those in need and provides other services.

Schriber played three sports at Wilton and was a starter as a freshman this season for the Michigan lacrosse team.

“Since we’ve both been home the only times we are out of the house is when we go for a run,” Schriber said. “We’ve been running together for the greater part of two months now. We decided, especially in this time, a lot of people need some extra help. People are struggling with jobs, struggling financially and we were looking to give back to our community any way we could.”

Schriber and Dedrick will be running throughout Wilton and are seeking donations. The suggested donations range from 50 cents per mile ($10) to three dollars ($60), but they will appreciate any amount.

They have opened up a Venmo account (@opendoorfundraiser). Payment arrangements can also be made by calling 203-501-0434.
