The field is set but the pairings for the FCIAC Girls Basketball Tournament won’t be finalized until tomorrow night’s final regular season games. And potential first-round opponents will be going head to head in a pair of games to try and improve their positioning.
What we know: Staples (17-2, 14-1 FCIAC) has clinched the top seed heading into its final game against Westhill. The Wreckers, who are hosting Saturday’s quarterfinals, will be playing in the final game at 7.
Staples’ opponent will be either Ridgefield (13-6, 9-6) or Fairfield Ludlowe (11-8, 9-6), which are currently tied for the final two seeds. The Tigers, who won the teams’ regular-season meeting, finish at home against rival Wilton.
The Falcons, who started the season 0-3 and 3-6, have won five straight and will be a heavy favorite tomorrow against Bridgeport Central.

|3 Trumbull||12-3||Trumbull def. Norwalk|
|5 Greenwich||11-4||Greenwich def. Stamford|
|7 Ridgefield||9-6||Ridgefield def. Ludlowe|
What we don’t know: Everything else. Though highly unlikely, it is possible there could be a five-way tie for the second through six seeds. Danbury’s win over Trumbull last night muddied the waters.
Danbury, Trumbull and Norwalk are tied for second place with 12-3 records. The Hatters own tiebreakers over both and could finish in the No. 2 spot with a win tomorrow at Stamford.
The game has important implications for the Black Knights, who are tied with Greenwich for the fifth and sixth spots at 11-4. Stamford will be involved in a multi-team tiebreaker with a win. A loss will lock it into the sixth spot.
In the other big game tomorrow night, Trumbull hosts Greenwich. The Eagles will be no worse than the third seed with a win. It will be involved in a tiebreaker with a number of teams, including the Cardinals, with a loss.
Norwalk ends the regular season tomorrow at New Canaan.
The quarterfinal schedule for Saturday at Staples is: No. 3 vs. No. 6, Noon; No. 2 vs. No. 7, 2 p.m.; No. 4 vs. No. 5, 5 p.m.; No. 1 vs. No. 8, 7 p.m.
The semifinals are Tuesday and the final Thursday, both at Trumbull.
