In July, as part of the Westport Library’s summer Camp Explore series, I hosted an interview with Warren Harding graduate and former NBA star Charles Smith. Afterward, Bill Harmer, the library’s executive director, and I agreed the seeds were sown for a future relationship.
Last week we agreed to collaborate on a new series, The Ruden Report Live From The Library. The facility is so much more than a library — I am looking forward to taking advantage of a state-of-the-art podcast studio — and the fact that Westport is my hometown makes this extra special.
I am hoping to tap into my contacts to lead some thoughtful discussions about professional, college and high school sports.
We have a special lineup for our debut show, which was originally supposed to be a high school football preview in two weeks. In light of the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference’s announcement on Friday to cancel the fall season, we have pushed the first show up to tomorrow night at 7 from the library’s Trefz Forum to discuss that decision.
I will be joined by four FCIAC coaches — New Canaan’s Lou Marinelli, Ridgefield’s Kevin Callahan, Danbury’s Augustine Tieri and Fairfield Ludlowe’s Mitch Ross — and four FCIAC players — St. Joseph’s Jack Wallace, Wilton’s Matt Gulbin, Staples’ Sam Milberg and Brien McMahon’s Christian Renie.
Also joining us will be Jeff Jacobs, the sports columnist at GameTime CT and Hearst Media CT.

I am really excited about this new project and want to thank Bill Harmer, Nancy Klein and Alex Giannini from the library for making this happen.
Here is the press release the library sent out today:
